Tim here. I found a pretty great deal on a used MPC One just to test the waters in a direct way to see if that’s a direction we might go, be it as part of our Made On Tape plans or just as a general workflow for our future sounds. Here is the first quick demo.
Made with Drumbrute Impact, Sequential OB-6, my own WaveBoy module (the overtly loud cowbell), and my modular rig (Osiris with slow modulation into EFI to Tape Delay with the UHER 4000 into Monsoon with the Reverb dialed up rather high).
Too soon to say but so far I have been really enjoying it! It’s not a DAW replacement in my view, though with the latest firmware it can get close. But most of the time I’m not in that mode and am not really thinking about that. It’s hard to describe but it’s definitely a different vibe. I think it will be fantastic for coming up with ideas and being used as the master controller in a daw-less world. I’ve only had it for 3 days though so it’s much too soon to really say and it does have some minor gripes (some of which I knew going in, some of which were new). Overall though, I do see what all the fuss is about and so far I’m liking the fuss – alot. – Tim
